Before requesting a quote
- Identify whether windows and exterior finishes are already installed.
- Supply available plans and opening photographs.
- Confirm box space and future service access.
- Identify responsibility for electrical, wall and finish work.
Let the project stage guide the choice
If the walls, windows and cladding are still being designed, a concealed system can be discussed with the builder while changes are easier to coordinate. If the façade is already finished, first establish what a surface-mounted system would require. Concealment should be evaluated as construction work, not merely as a different colour or optional cover.
Check the space around the opening
Share elevations, approximate dimensions and photographs of the wall above and beside the window. The selected shutter needs room to store the curtain and guide it into the opening. Ask who will confirm the final wall detail and production dimensions. A drawing with an empty rectangle above a window is not enough to establish that a particular box will fit.
Keep the working components accessible
Agree where the operator and box can be reached after installation. The shutter may need inspection or component replacement later, even if normal daily use is simple. The access detail should be considered alongside finishes, weather detailing and the electrical route. A concealed installation should never depend on an undocumented assumption that the finished surface can be removed easily.
Compare total project scope
Ask each quote to separate the shutter system from changes to the wall, finishing and electrical preparation. A lower product price can still involve more site work. If a concealed option demands extensive alterations, compare the complete result with a surface-mounted system whose guides and box coordinate with the window frames. Confirm both the appearance when open and the access needed for servicing.
