Before requesting a quote
- Opening width and height with units.
- Photos of headroom, side room and ceiling obstructions.
- Existing equipment and replacement scope.
- Controls, power and any required backup operation.
- Delivery, installation, disposal and handover responsibilities.
Understand where the door goes when open
A rolling curtain stores above the opening. A typical sectional door travels along tracks toward the interior ceiling. Each arrangement has its own clearance requirements. Take photos from inside the garage showing the lintel, side walls, ceiling, beams and stored items. Exact headroom requirements depend on the chosen door and dimensions, so use measurements to start a review rather than selecting a model by guesswork.
Document what is already there
For replacement work, show the existing door, operator, tracks or guides and electrical access. Note any changes planned for the garage floor or opening finishes. Ask whether removal and disposal are included, and identify any preparation needed before the new system arrives. An existing door that appears the right size does not establish the installation dimensions for a different design.
Compare the door as a complete system
Discuss curtain construction, finish, guides, operation and the conditions at the threshold. If insulation or other performance is important, request information for the quoted model. A general product description cannot establish the result for every opening. Confirm how the door is operated normally and what release or backup arrangement, if any, is specified.
Agree the installation and handover scope
Identify delivery access, the working area and responsibility for any electrical or building work. Ask who confirms final production sizes and how installation timing will be agreed. At handover, keep operating and care instructions with the order documents. For a quote covering several doors, make sure each opening's dimensions and controls are separately identified.
Apply the checklist to your project
